Online Scams
How To Identify Online Scams In The Home Based Business Atmosphere
If you haven’t figured this out already the internet is full of scams and get rich quick schemes that never work. So how do you know the difference between a scam and a legitimate home based business? Don’t let the fear stop you from starting your very own home based money making program. Like you’ll see me say many times on this site, “google is your friend” and you should use it to research and learn of such bad business practices.
First off a scam is either a plot to raise money under false claims or just a fraudulent business scheme in which you pay for something that you’ll never recieve. With good research and judgement of any and all offers that sounds too good to be true you’ll greatly decrease you’re chances of becoming a victim of such fraud.
Below is just a general idea of things you should try to avoid:
Any “jobs” that ask for money before they give you the job. Don’t confuse this with investing in certain start-up programs, membership fees, or the cost for turnkey websites scripts. All of those can be legitimate businesses but a lot of times don’t really provide you with the information needed to see the results advertised. We’ll cover more on that later.
Promising to make X amount of money in X amount of time. For example, making $1,000 in your first week while giving you the idea that all you have to do is sign up, buy the ebook, etc. Common sense should tell you that this doesn’t happen and if your common sense fails on something like honestly you probably should avoid internet completely.
Check with the BBB (Better Business Bureau) for good reputation. If the company has a bad reputation avoid them and find something else.
There is no absolute way of avoiding scams unless you completely 100% don’t take any risk at all. But at some point you’ll find that you that some risk should just be wieghed out and minimized and then taken. Think of it like a good stock broker does. Using his knowledge of the market and history of the stock he knows what stocks to invest in with the littlest bit of risk possible of losing out of big profit gains.
Now that you’re researching this business you come across this person or group of people calling something a scam simply because it didn’t work for them. In cases like this you can often find simple mistakes the person made which resulted in their failure like not doing their research, not giving it enough time, or just wasn’t the right oppurtunity for them. This is where you need to make sure the oppurtunity is something you can enjoy, get energy from and not something that you’ll find yourself burnt out on.
For most online business niches you should be able to find a related forum or message board in which you can get a chance to talk with others in that business and ask how its going for them. Some the questions you might want to ask depending what business niche you’re targeting would be:
- Which services or products do they promote and offer.
- How much money is needed to get started and what kind of incurring fees can be expected.
- How much time would it require of me.
- Is it profitable for them, and how long did it take become profitable.
- How long has the business been around? - With a lot of online business you’ll find that the longer they’ve been around the more over saturated they are with competition. So in my honest opinion the newer trends might be easier for you especially if it has anything to do with websites and search engine optimization.
Now that you know the answers to these questions is this something you could see yourself enjoying doing? If its selling products or services, is it something you’d be buy yourself or sell to a close family member? I think nearly if not all failed business could have been avoided had the person gone and done some research and consider the risk involved thoughtfully before diving into it.
With all that said, don’t let the fear of failure and scams stop you from having the freedom and flexibility of sitting at your computer in your t-shirt and panties making more money than you could at wal-mart. There is a ton of good honest home based businesses that are highly profitable and rewarding all you have to do is take the time and research them accordingly until you find the one that is right for you!
